🇦🇴 is not a single character. It is two regional indicator letters, 🇦 (U+1F1E6) and 🇴 (U+1F1F4), which spell AO, the two-letter code for Angola. Phones and computers that support flag emojis draw the pair as the flag.
Why do I see "AO" instead of the flag?
Windows does not draw country flag emojis. In Chrome, Edge and most Windows apps, 🇦🇴 shows up as the letters AO. The emoji is still correct: paste it into a message and anyone reading on an iPhone, Android phone or Mac sees the flag, like the image at the top of this page.
