How the Chile flag emoji works
🇨🇱 is not a single character. It is two regional indicator letters, 🇨 (U+1F1E8) and 🇱 (U+1F1F1), which spell CL, the two-letter code for Chile. Phones and computers that support flag emojis draw the pair as the flag.
Why do I see "CL" instead of the flag?
Windows does not draw country flag emojis. In Chrome, Edge and most Windows apps, 🇨🇱 shows up as the letters CL. The emoji is still correct: paste it into a message and anyone reading on an iPhone, Android phone or Mac sees the flag, like the image at the top of this page.
How to type the Chile flag emoji
- iPhone and iPad: open the emoji keyboard and search “Chile”, or scroll to the last category, Flags.
