How the Cyprus flag emoji works
🇨🇾 is not a single character. It is two regional indicator letters, 🇨 (U+1F1E8) and 🇾 (U+1F1FE), which spell CY, the two-letter code for Cyprus. Phones and computers that support flag emojis draw the pair as the flag.
Why do I see "CY" instead of the flag?
Windows does not draw country flag emojis. In Chrome, Edge and most Windows apps, 🇨🇾 shows up as the letters CY. The emoji is still correct: paste it into a message and anyone reading on an iPhone, Android phone or Mac sees the flag, like the image at the top of this page.
How to type the Cyprus flag emoji
