How the Djibouti flag emoji works
🇩🇯 is not a single character. It is two regional indicator letters, 🇩 (U+1F1E9) and 🇯 (U+1F1EF), which spell DJ, the two-letter code for Djibouti. Phones and computers that support flag emojis draw the pair as the flag.
Why do I see "DJ" instead of the flag?
Windows does not draw country flag emojis. In Chrome, Edge and most Windows apps, 🇩🇯 shows up as the letters DJ. The emoji is still correct: paste it into a message and anyone reading on an iPhone, Android phone or Mac sees the flag, like the image at the top of this page.
