How the Western Sahara flag emoji works

🇪🇭 is not a single character. It is two regional indicator letters, 🇪 (U+1F1EA) and 🇭 (U+1F1ED), which spell EH, the two-letter code for Western Sahara. Phones and computers that support flag emojis draw the pair as the flag.

Why do I see "EH" instead of the flag?

Windows does not draw country flag emojis. In Chrome, Edge and most Windows apps, 🇪🇭 shows up as the letters EH. The emoji is still correct: paste it into a message and anyone reading on an iPhone, Android phone or Mac sees the flag, like the image at the top of this page.

How to type the Western Sahara flag emoji

  • iPhone and iPad: open the emoji keyboard and search “Western Sahara”, or scroll to the last category, Flags.

  • Windows: Windows key + period opens the emoji panel, but it has no country flags. Copy the emoji from this page instead.
