How the Finland flag emoji works
🇫🇮 is not a single character. It is two regional indicator letters, 🇫 (U+1F1EB) and 🇮 (U+1F1EE), which spell FI, the two-letter code for Finland. Phones and computers that support flag emojis draw the pair as the flag.
Why do I see "FI" instead of the flag?
Windows does not draw country flag emojis. In Chrome, Edge and most Windows apps, 🇫🇮 shows up as the letters FI. The emoji is still correct: paste it into a message and anyone reading on an iPhone, Android phone or Mac sees the flag, like the image at the top of this page.
How to type the Finland flag emoji
- iPhone and iPad: open the emoji keyboard and search “Finland”, or scroll to the last category, Flags.
