How the Guam flag emoji works
🇬🇺 is not a single character. It is two regional indicator letters, 🇬 (U+1F1EC) and 🇺 (U+1F1FA), which spell GU, the two-letter code for Guam. Phones and computers that support flag emojis draw the pair as the flag.
Why do I see "GU" instead of the flag?
Windows does not draw country flag emojis. In Chrome, Edge and most Windows apps, 🇬🇺 shows up as the letters GU. The emoji is still correct: paste it into a message and anyone reading on an iPhone, Android phone or Mac sees the flag, like the image at the top of this page.
How to type the Guam flag emoji
- iPhone and iPad: open the emoji keyboard and search “Guam”, or scroll to the last category, Flags.
