How the India flag emoji works
🇮🇳 is not a single character. It is two regional indicator letters, 🇮 (U+1F1EE) and 🇳 (U+1F1F3), which spell IN, the two-letter code for India. Phones and computers that support flag emojis draw the pair as the flag.
Why do I see "IN" instead of the flag?
Windows does not draw country flag emojis. In Chrome, Edge and most Windows apps, 🇮🇳 shows up as the letters IN. The emoji is still correct: paste it into a message and anyone reading on an iPhone, Android phone or Mac sees the flag, like the image at the top of this page.
