🇲🇷 is not a single character. It is two regional indicator letters, 🇲 (U+1F1F2) and 🇷 (U+1F1F7), which spell MR, the two-letter code for Mauritania. Phones and computers that support flag emojis draw the pair as the flag.
Why do I see "MR" instead of the flag?
Windows does not draw country flag emojis. In Chrome, Edge and most Windows apps, 🇲🇷 shows up as the letters MR. The emoji is still correct: paste it into a message and anyone reading on an iPhone, Android phone or Mac sees the flag, like the image at the top of this page.
How to type the Mauritania flag emoji
