How the Malta flag emoji works
🇲🇹 is not a single character. It is two regional indicator letters, 🇲 (U+1F1F2) and 🇹 (U+1F1F9), which spell MT, the two-letter code for Malta. Phones and computers that support flag emojis draw the pair as the flag.
Why do I see "MT" instead of the flag?
Windows does not draw country flag emojis. In Chrome, Edge and most Windows apps, 🇲🇹 shows up as the letters MT. The emoji is still correct: paste it into a message and anyone reading on an iPhone, Android phone or Mac sees the flag, like the image at the top of this page.
How to type the Malta flag emoji
- iPhone and iPad: open the emoji keyboard and search “Malta”, or scroll to the last category, Flags.
