How the Maldives flag emoji works
🇲🇻 is not a single character. It is two regional indicator letters, 🇲 (U+1F1F2) and 🇻 (U+1F1FB), which spell MV, the two-letter code for Maldives. Phones and computers that support flag emojis draw the pair as the flag.
Why do I see "MV" instead of the flag?
Windows does not draw country flag emojis. In Chrome, Edge and most Windows apps, 🇲🇻 shows up as the letters MV. The emoji is still correct: paste it into a message and anyone reading on an iPhone, Android phone or Mac sees the flag, like the image at the top of this page.
