How the Chad flag emoji works

🇹🇩 is not a single character. It is two regional indicator letters, 🇹 (U+1F1F9) and 🇩 (U+1F1E9), which spell TD, the two-letter code for Chad. Phones and computers that support flag emojis draw the pair as the flag.

Why do I see "TD" instead of the flag?

Windows does not draw country flag emojis. In Chrome, Edge and most Windows apps, 🇹🇩 shows up as the letters TD. The emoji is still correct: paste it into a message and anyone reading on an iPhone, Android phone or Mac sees the flag, like the image at the top of this page.

How to type the Chad flag emoji

  • Windows: Windows key + period opens the emoji panel, but it has no country flags. Copy the emoji from this page instead.
