How the Uzbekistan flag emoji works
πΊπΏ is not a single character. It is two regional indicator letters, πΊ (U+1F1FA) and πΏ (U+1F1FF), which spell UZ, the two-letter code for Uzbekistan. Phones and computers that support flag emojis draw the pair as the flag.
Why do I see "UZ" instead of the flag?
Windows does not draw country flag emojis. In Chrome, Edge and most Windows apps, πΊπΏ shows up as the letters UZ. The emoji is still correct: paste it into a message and anyone reading on an iPhone, Android phone or Mac sees the flag, like the image at the top of this page.
