How the China flag emoji works

🇨🇳 is not a single character. It is two regional indicator letters, 🇨 (U+1F1E8) and 🇳 (U+1F1F3), which spell CN, the two-letter code for China. Phones and computers that support flag emojis draw the pair as the flag.

Why do I see "CN" instead of the flag?

Windows does not draw country flag emojis. In Chrome, Edge and most Windows apps, 🇨🇳 shows up as the letters CN. The emoji is still correct: paste it into a message and anyone reading on an iPhone, Android phone or Mac sees the flag, like the image at the top of this page.

How to type the China flag emoji
