Chinese Flag

Red Background: Represents China's traditional color dating back to the Han Dynasty in 206 B.C., and also symbolizes the Communist revolution. Large Yellow Star: Represents Communism and the leadership of the Communist Party of China. Four Smaller Yellow Stars: Represent the four social classes of the Chinese people - peasants, workers, petty bourgeoisie, and patriotic capitalists. Five Stars Total: The number five has always been an important number in Chinese philosophy, representing completeness and harmony.

China has had several national flags throughout its history. The original flag, introduced in 1872, featured a blue dragon on a yellow background. After the 1911 revolt that ended imperial rule, the flag changed to feature five different colored stripes. The current Five-star Red Flag was adopted in 1949 when the People's Republic of China was established, marking a new era in Chinese history under Communist leadership.
