How the Egypt flag emoji works
🇪🇬 is not a single character. It is two regional indicator letters, 🇪 (U+1F1EA) and 🇬 (U+1F1EC), which spell EG, the two-letter code for Egypt. Phones and computers that support flag emojis draw the pair as the flag.
Why do I see "EG" instead of the flag?
Windows does not draw country flag emojis. In Chrome, Edge and most Windows apps, 🇪🇬 shows up as the letters EG. The emoji is still correct: paste it into a message and anyone reading on an iPhone, Android phone or Mac sees the flag, like the image at the top of this page.
How to type the Egypt flag emoji
- iPhone and iPad: open the emoji keyboard and search “Egypt”, or scroll to the last category, Flags.
- Android: in Gboard, tap the emoji key, then search “Egypt” or open the flags tab at the end.
