How the Croatia flag emoji works
🇭🇷 is not a single character. It is two regional indicator letters, 🇭 (U+1F1ED) and 🇷 (U+1F1F7), which spell HR, the two-letter code for Croatia. Phones and computers that support flag emojis draw the pair as the flag.
Why do I see "HR" instead of the flag?
Windows does not draw country flag emojis. In Chrome, Edge and most Windows apps, 🇭🇷 shows up as the letters HR. The emoji is still correct: paste it into a message and anyone reading on an iPhone, Android phone or Mac sees the flag, like the image at the top of this page.
How to type the Croatia flag emoji
- iPhone and iPad: open the emoji keyboard and search “Croatia”, or scroll to the last category, Flags.
