How the Poland flag emoji works

🇵🇱 is not a single character. It is two regional indicator letters, 🇵 (U+1F1F5) and 🇱 (U+1F1F1), which spell PL, the two-letter code for Poland. Phones and computers that support flag emojis draw the pair as the flag.

Why do I see "PL" instead of the flag?

Windows does not draw country flag emojis. In Chrome, Edge and most Windows apps, 🇵🇱 shows up as the letters PL. The emoji is still correct: paste it into a message and anyone reading on an iPhone, Android phone or Mac sees the flag, like the image at the top of this page.

How to type the Poland flag emoji
