How the Romania flag emoji works
🇷🇴 is not a single character. It is two regional indicator letters, 🇷 (U+1F1F7) and 🇴 (U+1F1F4), which spell RO, the two-letter code for Romania. Phones and computers that support flag emojis draw the pair as the flag.
Why do I see "RO" instead of the flag?
Windows does not draw country flag emojis. In Chrome, Edge and most Windows apps, 🇷🇴 shows up as the letters RO. The emoji is still correct: paste it into a message and anyone reading on an iPhone, Android phone or Mac sees the flag, like the image at the top of this page.
How to type the Romania flag emoji
- iPhone and iPad: open the emoji keyboard and search “Romania”, or scroll to the last category, Flags.
