How the United States flag emoji works
πΊπΈ is not a single character. It is two regional indicator letters, πΊ (U+1F1FA) and πΈ (U+1F1F8), which spell US, the two-letter code for United States. Phones and computers that support flag emojis draw the pair as the flag.
Why do I see "US" instead of the flag?
Windows does not draw country flag emojis. In Chrome, Edge and most Windows apps, πΊπΈ shows up as the letters US. The emoji is still correct: paste it into a message and anyone reading on an iPhone, Android phone or Mac sees the flag, like the image at the top of this page.
